atlanta startup weekend: fri - sat morn

November 10th, 2007 · No Comments

i decided to sacrifice this weekend for the better good of the atl techinical community.

overview
70 atl area evanglists gather around in a huge room with the concept of identifying a business need, creating a company and creating an initial product offering in 54 hours (one LONG weekend). Andrew Hyde (the originator) flew in from bounlder to try to herd the cats in the proper direction.

friday night (fight night)
friday night was spent trying to widdle down to one idea. we voted like 40 times, but in the end ended up with a pretty kewl idea. the group was divided into business units:

  • marketing
  • (real) development: surprirse i was here
  • business development
  • other (not very vocal)

a slight dev vs. bus discussion broke out with dev pushing User Generatod Content for Bloggers and bus dev pushing Buying Mood. once decided, screens were drawn out on paper to identify use cases of the system. i think that its definitely something that could be usefull (bunch of us blog and we would use it quick). i cut out at 23:30.

sat morning
dev met and decided on the technical details

  • rails (no appcelerator: boo)
  • svn (asembla et all)

we came up with a name for the company: skribit. a datamodel was identified and boom, off to implementing we go.

vocabulary
just for fun here’s a list of the most popular buzz words w/ hit counts that i heard tonight

  • virally: 22
  • aratar: 7
  • semantic: 11

still did not hear “crossing the chasim”, but the event is still young.
